How to Lubricate a Saitek X52 Joystick

The Saitek X52 flight system is a fully featured joystick and throttle combo for simulation and flying games on the PC. The system is designed for durability and smooth use, but just like any other mechanical device, it can be subject to wear and tear. In particular, the joystick can be prone to stiffness or jerky movement if it is not lubricated once every six months or so.

Things You'll Need

  • Gun oil or paintball gun grease

Instructions

    • 1

Tilt the stick toward any of the four diagonal points and place a small amount of lubricant in the gap between the shaft and base. Only use smooth lubricants: paintball gun grease or gun oil have the right consistency, whereas engine oil may be too harsh for the precise workings of the joystick.

    • 2

Move the stick back, forth and in circular motions around all points to circulate the lubricant.

    • 3

Tilt the stick to another diagonal and place another small amount of lubricant between the shaft and base. Move the stick around to circulate the lubricant.

    • 4

Repeat the process of greasing the diagonal points of the stick then moving the stick around to circulate the lubricant until all four points have been oiled or the stick has regained its smooth movement.
