How do I Use a Madcatz X-Box360 Controller for Oblivion on a PC?

Microsoft's wired Xbox 360 controllers use a standard USB connector to connect to the Xbox 360 as well as computers. The Xbox 360 controller has become one of the most commonly supported PC gamepads, thanks in part to Microsoft's Games for Windows initiative. While not part of the Games for Windows brand, the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion supports both the official Xbox 360 controller by Microsoft and third-party controllers, such as those manufactured by MadCatz, although Bethesda recommends editing a configuration file to improve the gameplay experience.

Instructions

    • 1

Download the appropriate controller driver from Microsoft's website.

    • 2

Open Notepad or another text editor, and then open the Oblivion.ini file located in "My Documents/My Games/Oblivion."

    • 3

Find the Controls section of Oblivion.ini, and edit the controls found there. Change fJoystickMoveFBMult and fJoystickMoveLRMult to equal 2.0000 instead of 1.0000, iJoystickLookUpDown to equal 5 instead of 6, iJoystickLookLeftRight to equal 4 instead of 3, and fJoystickLookUDMult and fJoystickLookLRMult to equal 0.7500 instead of 0.0020.

    • 4

      Save the edited Oblivion.ini.

    • 5

Run Oblivion. You should be prompted to map the controller buttons. If you are not, you can edit them manually in the Options menu under Controls.
