Connect the joystick to the computer. Turn on your computer and click on the "Start" button. Go to "Control Panel" and and select "Game Controllers."
Check if your joystick is listed in the Game Controller section. If it isn't, click the "Add" option to select its type and add it to the list of input devices on your computer. Note that this is the first and most important step if you want to calibrate your joystick.
Open the "Properties" section on your joystick icon by clicking on it with the right click. After selecting the "Properties" option, find the "Test" option in the small window that appeared.
Click on the "Test" option to get to the directions. Follow the procedure and the directions for testing your joystick.
Click on the "Calibrate" option to get direction on how to set your joystick. Note that the calibrating option is in the "Settings" tab on the "Properties" window. Now your computer will launch the Device Calibration Wizard, which will do the calibration on its own, while you only push the "Next" button.
Check the buttons and the movement of the joystick as the Wizard asks you to. This will finalize the calibration process.
