How to Connect the Xbox & Cable Box to Surround Sound

Since both the Microsoft Xbox and digital cable receiver have the ability to transmit audio in a surround sound format, it stands to reason that both should be hooked into a surround sound system at the same time. Fortunately, most surround sound receivers allow for multiple devices to be connected at the same time. These devices exist on different "channels" when connected to the receiver.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the Xbox end of your Xbox-to-RCA cable adapter to the port in the back of your Xbox console.

    • 2

Connect the RCA end of your Xbox-to-RCA cables to the proper auxiliary input ports on your surround sound receiver.

    • 3

Connect one end of a set of RCA cables to the output port on your cable receiver. These cables should come with your receiver.

    • 4

Connect the other end of the RCA cables to an additional auxiliary input port on your surround sound receiver.

    • 5

Turn your television, devices and surround sound receiver on. The receiver can display the signal from both your cable receiver and Xbox on your television. Press the appropriate auxiliary input button on your surround sound receiver to switch between the Xbox and cable receiver.
