How to Get the Back Off of the Les Paul PS3 Guitar Hero Controller

The PS3 Guitar Hero controller is one of the today's largest and most sophisticated game controllers. It's shaped like a Gibson Les Paul electric guitar and is almost as big as one. Needless to say, disassembling this piece of equipment is a little more difficult than taking apart your average game controller. But if you need to remove the back of your Guitar Hero controller in order to perform any modifications or customizations, you can do it on your own and in a limited amount of time.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn your Les Paul controller over and locate the long plastic tab with the circle at the end of it, just below the neck of the guitar.

    • 2

Press down on the circular portion of this tab and simultaneously slide the neck up and off of the body of the controller.

    • 3

Locate the faceplate release switch on the back of the controller. It is a couple inches to the side of the square battery compartment.

    • 4

Lift the faceplate release switch up and simultaneously lift the plastic faceplate from the front of the guitar.

    • 5

Lift the battery compartment cover up and remove the batteries.

    • 6

Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove all 11 screws from the back sides of the guitar.

    • 7

Lift the back panel a couple inches off of the guitar controller, but be careful, as it is still attached to the body via a ribbon cable.

    • 8

Use your fingers to unplug the ribbon cable where it connects to the internal motherboard and set the back panel aside. The back of your Les Paul controller is now removed and you have access to the internal components.
