How to Fix a PS2 Multitap

Sony's Playstation 2 gaming console was developed with just two controller ports, so local multiplayer can only consist of two people. With competitor consoles such as the Microsoft Xbox and Nintendo Gamecube all featuring four controller ports for local multiplayer, Sony came up with the Multitap. The Playstation 2 Multitap is a device that provides two additional controller ports for the Playstation 2 video game console.

Plug the Playstation 2 Multitap into the Playstation 2 console. Before turning on your console, plug the Multitap into Controller 1. Make sure the Multitap is plugged in before turning on the system because the Playstation 2 will not be able to detect the hardware after it has been turned on.

Double-check the game you are trying to play and make sure it supports the PS2 Multitap. Some games do not support more than two players. The number of players supported will be printed on the lower half of the back of the game box. If the game does not support four players, you will not be able to utilize the PS2 Multitap.

Make sure the the PS2 Multitap you are using is compatible with your version of the Playstation 2 console. The Playstation 2 video game console comes in the original version first released in 2000, the slimline version, and the PSX version. If you are using an original PS2 and the Multitap is designed for the PS2 slimline, you will not be able to utilize that Multitap.
