How to Fix XBox 360 Wireless Controls

The Xbox 360 wireless controller offers all the features of the wired controller, minus the mess of cords in front of your video game console. Unfortunately, the wireless controller is susceptible to the same malfunction issues as the older controller, as well as a few exclusive to wireless technology. Such symptoms include the Xbox 360 console's being unable to connect to the new controller, the wireless controller shutting off at random times during game play, and the controller not functioning at all.

Double-check your controller battery. Your wireless controller won't work if it isn't charged. Remove the battery pack from the wireless controller and connect it to the Xbox 360 Quick Charger. The battery will take three to four hours to recharge. When the power light on the Quick Charger turns from red to green, remove the battery pack and put it back into your controller.

Make sure you have correctly connected the wireless controller to your Xbox 360 console. Turn on both the Xbox 360 system and your wireless controller. Press the Connect buttons on the Xbox 360 (located under the disc drive) and press the connect button on the wireless controller (located next to the port on top of the controller). This will prompt the console and controller to sync.

Move the wireless controller closer to the Xbox 360 console when you play. The wireless controller will lose its connection to the video game system if you move too far from it. Also, make sure that the Xbox 360 console is at least 3 feet away from any large metal objects. These can interfere with the wireless signal.

If none of the above steps helped you, you will need to return the device as defective.
