How to Fix Your PS2 Eject Button

The Sony PlayStation 2 stands as one of the most successful video games consoles ever made and has thousands of exclusive games. However, over time the console can become faulty and the eject button can break. This fault renders the PlayStation 2 useless and you won't be able to insert discs into the disc drive. If the system's power is working but the drive will not open then a connection has come loose inside the console itself and you will have to open it up.

Instructions

    • 1

Ensure that the power is switched off at the main supply. Unplug the power cable and the AV cable from the back of the console and remove any controllers or memory cards that are plugged into the front. Turn the PlayStation 2 over so that the logo is face down and use a screwdriver to remove all the screws. Hold the mainframe in place as you turn the console right side up and carefully remove the lid

    • 2

Remove the four screws on the lid of the disc tray and take the lid off. Use a small, blunt object at the front to lift the disc holder itself but don't take it off completely. There are a number of wires attached underneath that need to remain in position, so lift the disc holder slowly and carefully to ensure that you do not break any.

    • 3

Locate the port in the bottom right corner directly under the disc tray. This is where the cable for the eject button should be. Inside the lid of the PlayStation 2 console, you will find the cable itself. Slide the end of the cable into the port and push it in until it is firmly in place.

    • 4

Replace the disc holder by lowering it into position. Make sure to replace all the screws as you found them and then replace the disc tray and console lid. Flip the PlayStation 2 over and screw it back together.

    • 5

Re-attach the power cable and AV cable, plug the controllers and memory cards back in and turn on the power. Press the green power button and the LED will change from red to green. Press the eject button and you will find your disc drive opens again.
