How to Turn Off Your Dish Satellite Optical Sound on Your Playstation 3

The Sony PlayStation 3 gaming system allows for multiple audio and video output methods. The device ships with audio/video (AV) cables, which have red, white and yellow plug ends. However, component and high definition multimedia interface (HDMI) cables also can be used. If you use component cables, which are the green, blue and red ones, you also can use optical audio cable to provide comparable audio output quality.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the optical audio cable from the rear of the PlayStation 3. The optical cable is in the third socket from the right, next to the "AV Multi Out" connector. Pull it straight out.

    • 2

Replace the optical output with either the AV cables running to an AV output, or an HDMI cable running to an HDMI output, like a television.

    • 3

Change the settings on the PlayStation 3 so that the audio is no longer sent to the Dish Satellite via the optical cable, but to another output, such as AV or HDMI. Choose "Settings," then "Sound Settings," then "Audio Output Settings" and press the button marked "X."

    • 4

Select the type of cable used, for example "AV" or "HDMI," and press the forward arrow button to view the selection. Confirm the selection using the "X" button. The optical sound will be switched off, and sound will be delivered via the chosen cable to the device to which the cable is connected.
