How to Add a Patch to Firmware

Seventh-generation video game consoles, such as the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii, make use of an operating system that allows the user to access console games and the other applications that can be used with the console. If you find that your current version of firmware is incompatible with certain programs, you may need to find a patch for the firmware. Fortunately, any firmware patches will be immediately downloaded and installed to your game console once you can connect it to the internet.

Connect one end of your Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the back off your game console. Connect the other end to an available Ethernet output port in your modem. If you have a wireless router, you can skip this step.

Turn your game console on. If you are using a wireless router, go to your game console's main menu and configure a wireless connection with your router. This process will differ depending on which console you have. Consult your game console's manual for further information.

Use an application on your game console that makes use of the Internet. The application used will differ depending on the game console you have. For example, when using a PS3, select the "PlayStation Network" option to logon to the Internet.

Select the "Accept" option when informed that a patch must be downloaded before your game console can connect to the internet. The patch will automatically download and install itself to your game console's hard drive.
