Instructions
Download the Evo X files by searching for them on a search engine. Evo X is created with Microsoft XDK code and is considered by some to be illegal. For that reason, Evo X is not readily available for download. You must acquire the files by your own means. Evo X is illegal to distribute but not illegal to possess.
Download and install an Xbox ISO tool, such as Xiso, gXiso or IsoMaker (see Resources).
Launch your Xbox ISO tool. In Xiso, go to "Tools" and click on "Make Xiso." For the gXiso program, click on "Browse" next to "Xiso" and browse for the specific Xbox ISO image. In IsoMaker, go to "File" and "Create Iso."
Browse to the directory that contains the Evo X system files on your computer. Click on the "Open" button to open the Evo X folder in Xiso. Choose a file name for the Xiso by typing it into the "File Name" box. Click the "Save" button to create your Xiso.
Download a CD burning program on your computer and install the software by double-clicking on the setup file. Choose a directory when prompted by clicking on the directory where you want to install the program.
Open the CD burning program and go to "Record." Choose the DVD/CD burner you want to use by clicking on it. Click on "File" and "Burn Image." Find your created Xiso on your computer hard drive. Click on it to select it and click on the "Open" button to open the Xiso file.
Click on "Write" and "Finalize CD" to write the CD. Do not set the write speed too high. The maximum setting you want to use is 2x. Allow the burning program to burn the CD or DVD and eject the disc from your computer once it has finished.
Turn the Xbox on and put the disc in. Wait for it to boot. If the disc does not boot, try a different media. The disc should load the Evo X dashboard. Scroll down on the Evo X dashboard until you get to "System Utilities" and press "A." Scroll until you get to "Settings" and press "A." Scroll down to "IP" and press "A." Make a note of your Xbox IP address.
Connect your Xbox to your computer using a CAT5 Ethernet cable. Connect the CAT5 Ethernet cable to the back port of your Xbox and place the other end of the cable into the Ethernet port on your computer.
Download an FTP program and double-click on the setup file to install the program. Click "Next" when prompted by the install program and click on a directory to use to install the program.
Turn on your Xbox and go to the main menu.
Open the FTP program and go to "File" and "Connect." Enter "21" as the port. Enter "xbox" as the default password and username. Enter your Xbox IP address into the IP address box. Click "Connect." The computer drive will be shown on the left side of the screen, and the Xbox drive will be shown on the right side of the screen. You can drag and drop files by clicking on them to select them and dragging them to their new location.
Back up your Xbox hard drive to your computer if you haven't already. This helps ensure you can fix your Xbox if anything important gets deleted or changed.
Double-click on the C:/ directory of the Xbox and find the file "xboxdash.xbe." Select the file by right-clicking on it. Select "Transfer As." Type "msxboxdash.xbe" and click the "OK" button.
Access the Evo X folder on your computer. Change the default.xbe file in the folder to "xboxdash.xbe."
Transfer the evox files to the root of the C:/ directory. Reboot your Xbox.
Turn on your Xbox and the Evo X dashboard will boot.
