How to Install XBMC Using an Action Replay Splinter Cell

XBMC, or Xbox Media Center, is an application that can be installed onto your Microsoft Xbox with a softmod. The Xbox Media Center allows you to play music, movies and view pictures on your Xbox. You can even stream videos through the Xbox Media Center using your computer and an FTP connection. You can install the Xbox Media Center at home yourself.

      Navigate to the mIRC website and click on "Download mIRC" to save the mIRC chat client server to your computer. Install the software by double-clicking on the setup file and clicking "Next." Choose a directory to install the software to by clicking on it to select it.

      Log on to an IRC channel, select a command to query an FTP location. Type "/server irc.efnet.net" into the command box of the mIRC client. You will connect to EFNet. When you are connected to the EFNet server, type in "/j #xbins" and then type "/msg xbins !list" to receive a private message. You will be presented with two different FTP login details for the softmod installer and the XBMC.

      Log on to the first FTP server and access the file by double-clicking on "XBOX," "Console Based Applications," "exploits," "Packages," "Softmod Installer Deluxe" and "Softmod.Installer.Deluxe.v2.0.Xbox-Hq.rar. Extract the folder to a directory on your computer. Disconnect from the chat client. Log back in and choose the XBMC FTP log in this time. Click on "XBMC-2.0.1-FINAL-FAT-T3CH.rar." to save. Extract the files to a directory on your computer.

      Open the Action Replay software on your computer. Open the directory you extracted the Softmod Installer files to and drag the first "SID.Splinter.Cell.v2.0.NTSC.Xbox-Hq.zip" into the "PC Database" section in the Action Replay program. This will add a Linux Installer to the memory card section.

      Insert the Action Replay memory card into the Action Replay card reader and wait for the card to load. Copy the Splinter Cell saved game to your Action Replay card.

      Remove the Action Replay memory card and insert it into the Xbox memory card slot on the controller.

      Turn on your Xbox and go to "Memory" in the Xbox hard drive. Delete any saved games or music you might have on the Xbox hard drive.

      Select the "Memory Card" from the Xbox memory menu by pressing "A" and copy the first Splinter Cell save to your Xbox hard drive by selecting "Copy" and "Copy to hard drive."

      Remove your memory card from your Xbox controller and plug it back into the Action Replay card reader. Copy the second Splinter Cell save file to the card and remove it. Plug the card back into the Xbox controller and copy the second Splinter Cell save to the Xbox hard drive.

      Put Splinter Cell into your Xbox and allow the game to load.

      Go to "Profiles" and press "A" on the Linux saved game. Select "Check Points" instead of "Levels." The Xbox will boot Unleash X.

      Create a backup of the Microsoft dashboard by pressing "A" on "Create MS Backup." When the backup finishes, press "A" on "Crate Mod Backup."

      Press "A" on "Install Softmod" and wait for the installation to complete. Press "A" on "Install Unleash X". This replaces the Microsoft dashboard entirely.

      Power your Xbox off and back on. Your Xbox will boot to Unleash X. Take the Splinter Cell game out of your Xbox to avoid prompts of detecting a DVD disc.

      Press "A" on "System," "Settings" and "Network." Set "Enable" to "Yes," set "Type" as "DHCP" and set "FTP Server" to "Yes." Make note of your Xbox IP address.

      Connect a CAT5 Ethernet cable to the back port of your Xbox and to an available Ethernet port on your computer.

      Download an FTP program from the Internet. Install the program by double-clicking on the set up file and clicking "Next" when prompted. Click on a directory to install the program to. Open the FTP program.

      Go to "File" and "Connect." Enter "21" as the "port." Type in the default password and username "xbox" into the username and password box. Enter your Xbox IP address into the IP address box. Click on "Connect." Your Xbox drive will be shown on the right side and your computer drive will be shown on the left side. You simply drag and drop files between the drives to transfer them.

      Create a folder named "Apps" and place the XBMC folder you extracted earlier into the "Apps" folder by dragging and dropping it. Drag the "Apps" folder to the Xbox "E:/" drive. Turn off your Xbox and close the FTP connection on your computer.

      Turn your Xbox on and go to the "Apps" section in the Unleash X dashboard. Press "A" on the XBMC application to load the software. You can now enjoy watching movies, playing music, viewing photos or many other features. Movies, pictures and music can be transferred to your Xbox hard drive and played through the XBMC.
