PS2, Xbox and GC Hardware Specifications

The Nintendo GameCube, Microsoft Xbox and Sony PlayStation 2 are all sixth generation video gaming consoles. The PlayStation 2 came out in 2000, while the GameCube and Xbox both debuted in 2001. While all three systems were released very near the same time, their specifications are different. Nintendo followed the GameCube up with the Wii, while Sony came out with the PlayStation 3 and Microsoft created the Xbox 360.

    • The PlayStation 2 is 3.1 inches tall, 11.9 inches wide and 7.2 inches thick. The system weighs 4.9 pounds and is made of plastic. It can be stored on its side or upright. The PlayStation 2 has a 36.8 MHz processor and 32MB of internal memory. The system plays CDs and DVDs as well as games. The video card supports 128 bit graphics and has a fill rate of 150 million pixels per second. The PlayStation 2 allows you to connect two controllers at a time. Two USB ports and AV ports are also included.

    Microsoft Xbox

    • The Microsoft Xbox is 3.1 inches tall, 11.8 inches wide and 7.1 inches thick. The Xbox weighs 8.8 pounds and is black with a hint of green. The system features a 733 MHz processor and 64MB of internal memory. The Xbox has a memory card slot that allows for up to 8GB of additional storage. The video card gives the Xbox 256 bit graphics and has a fill rate of 400 million pixels per second. You can connect up to four controllers to the Xbox. The system also has an AV output.

    Nintendo GameCube

    • The GameCube weighs 5.3 pounds. The system measures 4.3 inches tall, 5.9 inches wide and 6.3 inches thick. The system comes in blue and black and has a carrying handle. The GameCube features a 485 MHz processor and 24KB of RAM. The system has a total storage capability of 1.5GB. The graphics have 32 bit color and in total are 64 bits. The GameCube has four controller ports and two slots for memory cards. AV outputs are also included. The system has a 128 bit processor.

    Games

    • None of these gaming systems have backward compatibility with other consoles. However, the Xbox 360 also plays games from the original Xbox and the Nintendo Wii plays GameCube titles. PlayStation 2 and Xbox games are the size of an audio CD, while GameCube titles come on smaller discs.
