Remove the six screws from the underside of the Xbox. Turn the Xbox over so the bottom is facing up and the Xbox logo is facing down. Remove the plastic screw protectors from all four corners to expose the screws. Remove the four long screws from each corner with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Remove the two screws near the stickers on the underside of the Xbox in the same manner.

Flip the Xbox over so the logo is facing up and remove the cover to expose the inside of the console. The cover simply pulls off.

    • 3

Remove the large gray cable that attaches the DVD drive to the hard drive. This component pulls out as you tug on it.

    • 4

Remove the wiring cables that plug into the DVD drive and the hard drive. These are located at the top of both compartments.

    • 5

Remove the three screws from around the DVD drive. These screws are small so, use a small eyeglass screwdriver. The DVD drive is located on the left hand side of the console. Set the screws aside so you don't lose them.

Pull up on the hard drive cover and remove any cables that are attached. This allows you access to the hard drive components, including the motherboard, circuits, and other parts.

    • 7

Locate the sliding locks on each side of the DVD drive. Slide these to release the DVD drive from its place. This enables you to pull the DVD drive from its case.
