Things You'll Need
Instructions
Turn off and unplug your Xbox.
Use the Torx 20 screwdriver to remove the Torx screws from the underside of the Xbox. There are six screws in total: one beneath each rubber foot at the corners, one underneath the Xbox system information sticker and one underneath the sticker with the serial number. You can either remove the stickers, or use the screwdriver to poke a hole through them.
Turn the box right side up and pull the top off of the console. This may require a little bit of effort. Once open, you should see the optical drive on the left side of the machine, and the hard drive on the right.
Pull the optical drive out of the system; there should be two clips at the back corners of the drive that hold it into place. Remove the cables that connect the drive to the motherboard, and set the drive aside.
Remove the hard drive; this isn't necessary, but will give you more room to maneuver while installing your mod chip. It will pull out the same way as the optical drive. Make sure to remove the cables and place it somewhere safe.
Unscrew the grounding screw from the motherboard; this will make room for the mounting bracket for your mod chip.
Install your mod chip mounting bracket on the motherboard; this will be below where the optical drive was, near the nvidia chip on the outside edge of the motherboard. How you secure this mount will vary depending your chip; solderless mounts use a screw to secure to the motherboard, while other chips use a pin header inserted into the open holes on the motherboard and soldered in place. Another method called "wire installation" requires that you solder individual wires into the holes.
Insert the bus wire into the ground hole on the motherboard, if your installation method requires it. If this wire comes loose from the hole the mod chip will stop functioning, so soldering it in place can be preventative measure.
Insert your mod chip into the mounting bracket. Make sure the the chip is mounted correctly. Once your chip is properly installed and your grounding wire is secure, close your Xbox.
Flash your BIOS, using the proper BIOS for the mod chip that you have installed (see Resources).
