PS3 60 GB Specifications

The 60 GB PlayStation 3 was one of the first two PS3 models, originally released in 2006, and is also the most full-featured PS3 console. Although Sony discontinued manufacture of 60 GB PS3 consoles in 2007, refurbished and used 60 GB PS3s are still available for sale as of late 2010.

    • An IBM Cell processor, which runs at a speed of 3.2 GHz, powers the 60 GB PS3. This processor is functionally identical to the Cell Broadband Engine, which powers the newer Slim PS3 consoles, which were originally released in 2009. The only difference between the two processors is that the latter is quieter.

    Video

    • The graphics processing unit of the 60 GB PS3 is the Nvidia RSX, which has a framebuffer of 256 MB of GDDR3 memory and is capable of displaying at resolutions as high as 1,920 by 1,080 pixels.

    Memory

    • The 60 GB PS3, as its name implies, has a hard disk drive capacity of 60 GB. The 60 GB PS3 also has 256 MB of RAM and can interface with original PlayStation and PlayStation 2 memory cards via a memory card adapter.

    Supported Media Types

    • The 60 GB PS3 is able to play several media formats, including CDs, DVDs and the console's signature Blu-ray discs. Like other PS3 models, the 60 GB PS3 can play original PlayStation games; however, the 60 GB console is the only PS3 model with backward compatibility of any sort for PlayStation 2 games.

    Dimensions

    • The 60 GB PS3, being one of the first two PS3 models to be released in 2006, is also one of the larger models, measuring 12.8 inches wide, 10.8 inches deep and 3.9 inches tall while weighing 11 lbs.
