My Original Xbox Tray Won't Come Out

If you own an older video game console, it's likely that you've encountered a problem or two with it. After all, video game consoles aren't indestructible. Most of the time, these problems are serious and can only be fixed by professionals -- except for minor problems, such as the tray on an original Xbox that won't open. This can happen whether or not there is a game in the tray. As long as your Xbox is otherwise functional, turning on and off regularly, displaying the dashboard and loading a game if a disk is in the tray, you don't need to ship your console back to the manufacturer.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your Xbox console and unplug it.

    • 2

Locate the manual release button on your Xbox console. The manual release button will be located in a pinhole, either to the left of the eject button or below the disc tray.

    • 3

Insert the tip of the straightened paperclip into the pinhole and press the manual release button. If you don't feel a button in the pinhole, be sure to check the other possible locations for the manual release button, particularly the pinholes below the disc tray. The manual release button could be located in the pinhole under either the "B" or "O" in the Xbox logo.

Pull the disc tray the rest of the way open gently, once it's partially open, using your fingers.
