Suspending the Power Unit
Tie two pieces of string to the power unit of the Xbox, one on each side. This is the block with a light on it, which is closest to the power plug. Tie one string to each side of the unit, so that you can evenly suspend the power supply unit by holding the two strings. Suspending the power brick helps air circulation to the power brick, and improves overall cooling of the console. Tie the string around the entire power unit, not on the power cord.
Tie the two strings that are attached to the power unit, to a surface on which it can be suspended, such as hooks in the ceiling, or on the bottom of a book shelf. This allows the power unit to attain better air circulation to fix, or prevent overheating.
Point a fan blowing towards the power brick if you feel that more air circulation is needed to keep the power brick from overheating.
Intercooler
Turn off the Xbox console, wait one minute and unplug the console. Remove the power cord from the back side of the Xbox.
Place the intercooler into place on the back side of the console. Line up the intercooler with the frame of the Xbox. Make sure that the power source is lined up with the large hole on the intercooler. Snap the intercooler into place on the reverse side of the Xbox.
Replace the power source to the Xbox through the hole in the intercooler, and return power to the Xbox. If installed properly, the intercooler will automatically start running when the Xbox is turned on.
Towel Trick
If the above methods do not work, turn off your Xbox 360 console, wait one minute, and unplug the console. Completely wrap the console with the towel. Let the Xbox sit for about 30 minutes, and return the power cord to the console.
Place the Xbox console on its side for the best air circulation possible.
Allow the Xbox console to run for about 10 minutes if the red ring persists, wait for a green ring to flash, and turn off the Xbox for an hour. Turn on the Xbox after an hour as passed, the ring should stay green, and your Xbox should be up and running again.
