Things You'll Need
Instructions
Download and install an FTP client program. Follow the program installation wizard to properly install the software.
Launch the FTP client from the desktop shortcut or the "Start" menu.
Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the back of the Xbox console and the other end into the network adapter on the computer or a wireless router.
Turn on the Xbox and wait for the dashboard to load. Select "System," "Settings" and select "IP" or "Network" depending on the dashboard version in use.
Write down the "IP Address" for later use. The IP address will appear as "192.168.X.X" for most networks. Numbers will replace the ".X.X" of the address.
Verify that the "Type" or "IP" is set to "Static," the "Port" is "21" and both "username" and "password" are "xbox." Press "Exit" and save the settings.
Return to the FTP client on the computer and choose to add a new site. In general, this is done from an option under the "File" menu such as "Site Manager," "Add new" or "Quick Connect."
Enter the required information in the pop-up dialogue box. Give the connection a name, enter the IP address of the Xbox, enter "21" as the port and type "xbox" for the username and password. Click "Connect" to establish the "FTP" connection with your Xbox console.
