"Virtua Fighter"
Perhaps the most recognizable title in the Sega exclusive catalog, "Virtua Fighter" put players in the familiar one-on-one fight match-up with an emphasis on realism. Players must learn and master up to 700 moves, discovering each character's personal fighting style and unique special moves. A variety of "Virtua Fighter" games were released for the Saturn, including the sequels "Virtua Fighter 2" and "Virtua Fighter Kids."
"Street Fighter"
Although the "Street Fighter" game franchise began before the Sega Saturn entered the market, it reappeared in new directions with titles such as "Street Fighter Alpha," "Street Fighter Alpha 2" and "Street Fighter Zero 3." These games created a story that actually predated the events that took place in the previously released "Street Fighter 2" and featured the same familiar fighting system using new and improved graphics.
"X-Men"
The super heroes created by Marvel Comics appeared in a variety of Sega Saturn games, including "X-Men: Children of the Atom," "Marvel Super Heroes," "X-Men vs. Street Fighter" and "Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter." The latter titles featured one-on-one fighting match-ups between the iconic characters of the franchises.
"Primal Rage"
Featuring the same violence and fighting style from the "Mortal Kombat" series, "Primal Rage" substituted prehistoric creatures in place of the fighters. While the game shared other similarities with "Mortal Kombat" like brutal domination moves, it also introduced new concepts to the fighting genre, such as allowing players ways to regenerate health mid-match.
"Golden Axe: The Duel"
This title followed up on the Sega Genesis title "Golden Axe" by taking some of the same characters and placing them in one-on-one battles against each other for the new 32-bit system. The game offers one-player and two-player mode, allowing users to play against the computer or a friend. "Golden Axe: The Duel" also made its way into arcades.
