Removing Dust From a PlayStation 3

Routine maintenance of your Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) will not only ensure your console looks great, but runs smoothly for as long as possible. Dust accumulation inside the console can damage internal components, which can hinder game play and even cause an early death to your console. When the outside of the unit appears dusty, the inside is most likely collecting dust also. Keeping your PS3 dust-free is simple, and requires only a few simple steps recommended by Sony.

  Prevent dust by keeping your PS3 in an ideal environment. Avoid excessive exposure to dirt, dust, and cigarette smoke. Do not set your console on the carpet. Clean your discs before inserting them into the console to avoid the transference of dust into the lens area.

  Turn off the console and unplug it from the power source. All cleaning should be performed when the unit is unplugged.

  Take a soft, dry cloth and wipe the outer areas of the console. Never dust with any liquid cleaners or chemicals, and do not use cloths that have been chemically treated.

  Use a hand vacuum with crevice tools, or the hose component of an upright vacuum, to clear the vents of dust. Do not use compressed air canisters, as they contain moisture that can damage the internal components of the console.

  Maintain a dust-free PS3 by repeating this maintenance on a regular basis.
