How to Play Import Games on Your Turbo Grafx 16

The TurboGrafx 16 is a discontinued video game console developed by Hudson Soft and NEC that was released in 1987. It was much more popular in Japan than it was in the United States and therefore had many titles that were only released in Japan. Many of the Japanese disks will only play on Japanese versions of the console. Because of this, many hobbyist and video game fans who still wish to play the system's import games take special steps to play them on American-released systems.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a distributor that sells TurboGrafx 16 games and import (Japanese) games.

    • 2

Purchase a converter. Although the PC Engine (Japanese version of the TurboGrafx 16) will not play imported American games at all, the TurboGrafx 16 will play import games via a converter. There are two different kinds of converters available. The first kind of converter is called the Game Converter and the second is named the Kisado. Both are widely available for purchase online.

    • 3

Insert the converter into the game card slot. Once the converter has been plugged into the system players will be able to insert imported Turbografx 16 games into the card slot on the converter. Power the system on and players can now play imported Turbografx 16 games.
