Open the Xbox casing by taking the small rubber feet off the bottom of the console. Use a knife or a flat-head screwdriver to take these off.
Unscrew the screws beneath the rubber feet with the Torex screwdrivers. Peel the warranty sticker off from the bottom of the console to reveal the last screw you need to take out.
Turn the Xbox console over. Lift the casing off gently to reveal the components.
Take the hard drive out of the console. The hard drive will be located to the right of the DVD drive in the console. Four screws hold the hard drive in the hard drive tray. Lift the hard drive tray out, and unscrew the four screws on the side of the tray.
Unplug the IDE tape cable from the back of the hard drive. Unplug the power cable from the back of the hard drive.
Take the hard drive out of the Xbox and place it in a cool place. This could be a tile floor or an air conditioning vent.
Shut down your computer from the "Start" menu. Unplug the power cable from the back of the power supply on the back of your computer tower.
Unscrew any screws that keep the tower door open on the side of the computer. Slide the computer tower door off the tower to reveal the computer components.
Locate your computer's existing hard drive. This will be in the far right-hand corner of the computer tower and will look similar to the Xbox hard drive.
Locate the IDE cable in the back of the existing hard drive. There will be an extra extension input on the cord.
Plug the IDE extension cable input into the back of your Xbox hard drive.
Find a power cable that is not being used coming off the power supply. Plug the power cable into the back of the Xbox hard drive on the right-hand side of the unit.
Mount the Xbox hard drive in the tower with the screws provided in the tower. There may also be a tray to screw your hard drive into. This will keep it from shifting around when you move the tower.
Put the tower door back on the tower and replace any screws you took out to gain access to the computer components.
Plug the power cable back into the computer tower. Turn the computer on.
Insert your Windows install disc into the DVD tray of the computer. Wait for the installation window to pop up. The Windows Setup program will load and ask you what drive you want to load Windows on.
Choose the Xbox hard drive by the drive capacity. Your Xbox hard drive is only 8GB. You will find the drive capacity on the right-hand side of the drive chart.
Click "Next" on the menu and wait for Windows to format your hard drive.
Click "Quit" to end the program by selecting it from the top of the menu.
Restart your computer.
Click the "Start" menu on the lower left-hand side of the screen when your computer restarts. Choose the "My Computer" icon from the choices. Your Xbox hard drive will be listed as available drives.
