How to Clean a Super Nintendo Console

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) is one of the best-loved console systems in video gaming history. Not only did the system play host to games like "Final Fantasy VI" and the original "Super Mario Kart," but many hardware and processing features of the machine were hugely influential on later machines like the Sony PlayStation. If you have a cherished original Super Nintendo, you probably want to keep it in the best possible condition for exhibiting and playing.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug all wires from the Super Nintendo Entertainment System before cleaning, such as main power, A/V connector and control pads.

    • 2

Spray a medium quantity of glass cleaner onto a paper towel or washcloth. The cloth should be damp but not dripping.

    • 3

Gently scrub dirt and marks off the exterior of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. When one area of your washcloth or paper towel becomes too dirty, use a new paper towel or a different part of the washcloth. If your SNES has become slightly yellowed, do not try to remove this coloration: it is simply a natural condition of the plastic used to manufacture the console and cannot be removed by cleaning.

    • 4

Open the cartridge slot of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and blow compressed air on the gold cartridge contacts. If the SNES is sometimes refusing to play games, this will clean the contacts and improve the console's performance. If any liquid from the compressed air drips onto the contacts, make sure it dries before using the console.
