How to Replace a HDD in an XBox

The Xbox 360 is a high definition gaming console with a plethora of features such as Xbox Live, a DVD player and a removable hard drive, also referred to as a HDD. The HDD comes in various sizes and many gamers choose to upgrade to a larger gigabyte HDD because the standard 20 GB model can often become constraining. Replacing the HDD is an extremely simple process.

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn off your Xbox 360.

    • 2

Locate the HDD that you wish to replace. The HDD will be labeled with "HDD," and fits on the left, thin side of the console when positioned horizontally. Notice how it fits to the Xbox 360. This will help you install the new HDD.

    • 3

Hold down the button on the HDD and pull out until it fully ejects from the console.

    • 4

Align the new HDD the same way the previous one was installed. The fatter side of the HDD positions toward the back of the console while the thin side aims toward the front.

    • 5

Push down on the fatter side first.

    • 6

Push down on the thin side until it clicks into place.
