How to Link Two PS2 Slim Consoles for LAN

Previously, players could use the plug-and-play Sony iLink cable to quickly connect multiple PlayStation 2 consoles to a local area network, or LAN. When the PS2 slim was released, gamers discovered that the iLink was not compatible with the new console. However, you can still easily link two PS2 slim consoles and enjoy multiplayer games with your friends.

Instructions

  1. Connecting the Consoles and Setting Up the Network

    • 1

Plug one end of a Cat 5 crossover cable into the ethernet port on the back of the first PS2. Make sure you are using a crossover cable and not just a standard Cat 5 ethernet cable. The two cables look nearly identical, but the crossover cable should be labeled as such on the jacket.

    • 2

Plug the other end of the Cat 5 crossover cable into the ethernet port on the back of the second PS2.

    • 3

Insert the online start-up disc that came with your PlayStation 2 console into the first PS2. Follow the onscreen prompts to begin configuring your network.

    • 4

Select "Manual Settings" when given the option to do so. Use the onscreen keyboard to enter the following settings: 10.10.100.1 for the IP Address, 255.255.255.0 for the Netmask, 255.255.255.0 for the Default Router Address, 216.99.193.19 for the Primary DNS Address and 216.99.193.2 for the Secondary DNS Address.

    • 5

Insert the online start-up disc into the second PS2. Select "Manual Settings" when given the option to do so. Enter the exact same settings used for the first PS2, but change the IP Address to 10.10.100.2.
