How to Fix a PS3 DNS Error

Many gamers have come across the frustrating DNS error message on their Playstation3 consoles as they attempt to get connected to the Internet. Although it may be a simple fix to get rid of the DNS error message, you may have to try a few different methods to resolve the connection problem. Once you figure out the cause, you can get your PS3 back online and enjoy interactive game play.

Instructions

    • 1

Reset the modem you have set your PS3 to connect to. Turn the power off and wait several minutes before allowing it to reset. Try to go online again with your PS3 to see if this resolved the problem.

    • 2

Turn off your computer's firewall. A firewall can sometimes cause a DNS error to appear on a PS3.

    • 3

Check the IP address entered on the PS3 connection screen. From your PC or notebook, you can receive your IP address to ensure you have manually entered the correct address into your PS3. You have a primary and secondary IP address so make sure that the two addresses have not been entered in reverse order into the PS3.

    • 4

Upgrade your Playstation3 firmware. Make sure you have the latest version of the PS3 firmware installed. To check for updates, log on to the Playstation website. Once firmware is updated, try to reconnect to the Internet with the PS3.

    • 5

Switch your router. If nothing else works, try out a different router to see if the router is the cause of the PS3 DNS error message.
