How to Fix an Old XBox

The original X-Box was a sixth-generation video game console made by Microsoft. This particular machine was the first time Microsoft had gotten involved in making video game consoles. It was first released in late November 2001 and was discontinued in 2006, with the last game for the console being released in 2008.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the disc drive of the X-Box. You can use a regular DVD disc cleaner to clean the laser inside the machine. Many of the problems that occur when playing the X-Box occur because the DVD drive is dirty.

    • 2

Unplug the game system from the wall and use a screwdriver to take off the bottom plate. Carefully remove the hard drive from the console.

    • 3

Take a can of compressed air and use it to carefully clean off the hard drive and any of the other interior parts that might need to be cleaned.

    • 4

Place the hard drive back in the machine and replace the metal plate.

    • 5

Plug the system back into the wall and test it to see if it is working properly. If the machine is still not working correctly you may need to contact Microsoft about getting replacement parts.
