How to Hook Up an Atari to a Modern Television Set

Sometimes the blocky graphics, silly sounds and plain old fun of vintage games beats even the high-tech sights and sounds of modern video games. If you happen to have an old Atari video game system, or you're interested in buying one, you need to be able to connect it properly to a modern television set.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy an adapter to connect the RCA-type cable from the Atari system to the coaxial cable port on your television. The adapter must have a male F connector (for coaxial cable) and a female "phono" RCA connector. This adapter is available from some retail electronics stores.

    • 2

Screw the male F connector into the coaxial cable port of the television. Then connect the RCA cable from the Atari system to the female RCA port on the adapter.

    • 3

Turn your television to the appropriate channel. Try channel 3 or 4 first. If neither of these work, consult your television owner's manual.

    • 4

Plug the Atari's power cable into an electrical outlet, put one of your games in the system and have a blast.
