How to Wire a Door to a Lever in Minecraft

In the indie game, "Minecraft," you can craft levers and place them on floors or walls in order to operate doors and other objects. You can also use levers to open and close doors by placing the lever on an adjacent block. If you want to place the two objects further apart, you can connect them using Redstone wire. When you flip the lever, it sends a charge through the Redstone wire to the door which remains open until the lever is flipped again.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand in front of your crafting bench and right-click the bench (PC) or press the "X" button (Xbox 360) to open the crafting menu.

    • 2

Combine six wood planks to create a wooden door or six iron ingots to create an iron door.

    • 3

Combine one stick and one cobblestone on the crafting screen to create a lever.

    • 4

Use an iron pickaxe to mine Redstone ore. This ore is commonly found near bedrock and the dust is used to make the wires that connect the door to the lever. The amount of ore you need depends on the distance you want to place the lever from the door. Each Redstone yields about five piles of dust.

    • 5

Select the door from your inventory and right-click (PC) or press the left trigger button (Xbox 360) to place it in the gameworld.

    • 6

Select the lever from your inventory and right-click (PC) or press the left-trigger button (Xbox 360) to place it in the game world. Levers can be placed on the ground, ceiling or floors.

    • 7

Select the Redstone from your inventory and place it next to the lever. As soon as Redstone dust is placed in the game world, it turns into a wire. Create a line of Redstone from the lever to the door.

    • 8

Right-click the lever (PC) or press the right trigger button (Xbox 360) to flip the lever. The Redstone wire glows red to indicate that there is a charge flowing through it and the door opens.
