Start the game and play the career mode until you have earned enough cash to purchase the Nissan 240SX. This car is available from the car lot for $15,000 and is well suited for drag races.
Select "Drag Mode" after purchasing the Nissan 240SX and then upgrade all the parts to the maximum that you can afford. Focus on parts like the engine and forced induction that will increase the top speed of the car as well as nitrous oxide that provide an extra boost during races. You can save money by not upgrading the brakes or cosmetic items as these have no impact on performance during drag races.
Return to the career map and select any of the battle machine races that feature drag events.
Choose the Nissan 240SX when asked to select a drag car. Select "Race Events" and then select the drag race that you want to take part in. Take note of the score listed below "Record" on the drag race information screen. This is the score that you have to beat to break the record.
Select "Race" and then select the 240SX to start the drag event.
Hold down the accelerator button during the first phase of the event to heat up your tires. When the indicator on the grip meter reaches the green section let go of the accelerator briefly. The goal is to keep the indicator in the green section of the grip meter for as long as possible in order to achieve maximum grip for the race. The green section moves to the left when the indicator reaches it, so you have to time your button presses to move the indicator with the meter.
Hold down the accelerator to keep the indicator in the green section of RPM bar once the race begins. As soon as the lights turns green or the race starter drops their hands press the "Shift Up" button to achieve a perfect shift and pull away from the starting line faster than your opponent.
Press the "Shift Up" button each time the indicator on your RPMB bar reaches the green zone. If you shift while the indicator is not in the green zone you will not achieve a perfect shift, which will slow your car down.
Press the "Nitro" button once you are halfway down the track to get an extra speed boost that should propel you to the finish line faster. Keep your car on the track and do not touch the side barriers or your opponents, as this will lose you points. Achieving first place with a no-damage bonus will provide you with enough points to break the record. If not, use your earnings to upgrade your Nissan 240SX even further.
Break the record for ten drag races and a video introducing Karol Monroe, the "Drag King," is shown.
Select "Rogue Speed / Portland International Raceway" from the career map to enter the Drag King challenges. This event is unlocked immediately after you have broken ten drag race records.
Complete all the races on Portland International Raceway to unlock "Chicago Airfield."
Visit the car lot and purchase the Chevrolet Chevelle SS for $33,000. The next set of races feature a new drag event for which you need a car that can wheelie. Select "Tune" from the car customization menu and set the ride height to "Low." Set the suspension to "Stiff" and then save the changes.
Take part in the Chicago Airfield races and use the Nissan 240SX for the normal drag races. Use the Chevrolet Chevelle SS for the wheelie race. With the tuning changes you made, the car will wheelie automatically when you race, making for an easy win.
Win the Chicago Airfield races to unlock the "Infineon" event. Complete the Infineon event and you finally get your shot at racing the "Drag King."
Win the first place against Karol Monroe in the wheelie competition, 1/4 mile drag, and 1/2 mile drag to claim her title and her car.
