How to Put Side Spin in Wii Tennis

"Wii Tennis" is one of the sports you can play in the "Wii Sports" game package that was released in 2006. Using the Wii Remotes, players mimic real-life tennis by swinging at the screen and making their character "Miis" play tennis on screen. You can control the way your Mii hits the ball based on your timing, swing speed and twists of the wrist. You can create "side spin," or make the ball move to the right or the left after it bounces, as part of a hit that includes either "backspin" or "topspin."

Instructions

  1. Creating Side Spin with Topspin

    • 1

Swing at the ball, either forehand or backhand.

    • 2

Twist your wrist forward towards the screen during your forward swing to create a topspin that makes the ball speed up after it bounces. On a backhand swing you will turn the buttons on the Wii Remote up, and on a forehand swing you will turn them down.

    • 3

Adjust the speed of your swing to create the desired side spin. The slower you swing, the more the ball will appear to have subtle spin.

    Creating Side Spin with Backspin

    • 4

Swing at the ball, either forehand or backhand.

    • 5

Twist your wrist backward away from the screen during your forward swing to create a backspin that makes the ball slow down after it bounces. On a backhand swing you will turn the buttons on the Wii Remote down, and on a forehand swing you will turn them up.

    • 6

Adjust the speed of your swing to create the desired side spin. The slower you swing, the more the ball will appear to spin to the side. Since the backspin naturally slows the ball down, the side spin will appear more pronounced than it will on a topspin hit.
