Utilize Your Characters Properly
In Donkey Kong Country 2, you may play with both Diddy and Dixie at the same time. Whichever character is in the lead is the one that you control at that moment; the other follows. If an enemy hits you, you will lose the lead character, and the secondary character will move up for you to control. You can pick the lost character back up by hitting a barrel with "DK" on it.
Diddy can jump higher than Dixie. However, Dixie has the ability to do a helicopter spin with her ponytail. The helicopter spin allows her to fall slowly to reach far-off places. This move is necessary to reach some of the DK coins. If you are playing with Diddy as your main character, just hit the "Select" button to change to Dixie. Hit the ̶0;Select̶1; button again to switch back to Diddy. You can switch back and forth as much as you want.
Work Together
Some DK coins require the use of the team throw to reach them. To do the team throw, you must have both Diddy and Dixie. It does not matter which is the lead character. Press "A" for the secondary character to hop on the shoulders of the lead character, then "Y" to throw him or her. In some locations, you will need to jump just before you throw the secondary character.
Use Your Friends
In certain levels, you will control animal friends. These animal friends can help you reach DK coins. For example, you can use Squitter the spider to help you reach a DK coin in the "Hot-Head Hop" level by building web platforms until you can touch the coin. To build a web platform with Squitter, you must hold "Up" and press "A". Press "A" again to open the web and jump on it. Move quickly, as the webs don't last long.
In the "Barrel Bayou" level, you will get a chance to control Rambi the Rhino. If you still have Rambi when you get to the "No Rambi" sign, he will turn into a DK coin.
