Instructions
Avoid making extreme movements with your Wiimote. The controller is sensitive to the slightest movements, so practice your handling regularly to learn how to control your kart. Attach your controller to a wheel accessory to get a better grip on your Wiimote.
Press the acceleration button when the race countdown clock switches from two to one. Practice this method to perfect your timing. Hitting the button at the correct time will give you a starting boost.
Take advantage of the drafting move, which allows you to tail an opponent and gain speed in his slipstream.
Maintain the fastest speed possible where you can comfortably race without hitting obstacles or walls. Hitting objects brings your kart to an abrupt stop, and you will lose valuable time when trying to regain speed.
Regain speed instantly when you fall off track by using a boosting trick. By pressing the accelerate button as soon as Lakitu drops you on the track, you will return to your top speed almost immediately. You must time this move perfectly for it to work.
Hit ramps and speed pads head on to take advantage of the speed boost they provide.
Utilize power-ups along the track. Power-ups appear as cubes labeled with question marks. Each power-up cube gives you a special weapon to use against your opponents. Press the "z" button to launch your weapon or special power.
Use weapons as a defensive item when you are in first place. The player in first usually receives the brunt of his opponents' attacks, so you must guard yourself against these constant onslaughts. When you pick up a banana peel or turtle shell, hold the left arrow on your directional pad to use the item as a shield.
Listen for incoming attacks. Your Wiimote will play a warning siren when an enemy targets you with their weapon. When the siren sounds, swerve to the side of the road to avoid projectile weapons.
