Wii Table Tennis Instructions

The Nintendo Wii Sports Resort game includes several sub-games that take advantage of the more accurate controller sensor in the Wii Motion Plus attachment (one of which is included with Wii Sports Resort). Wii Table Tennis is one of the sub-games within Wii Sports Resort. In table tennis you play a game to six points but you must win by two points (so if your opponent has five points, you must score seven to win). Service changes every two points so each person gets a chance to serve the ball.

Instructions

    • 1

Flick the Wiimote up in the air to toss the ball. Flick harder to toss the ball higher. Swing the remote to hit the ball before it lands on the table to serve it. Hit while swinging the Wiimote up to put top-spin on the ball. Hit while swinging the Wiimote down to put bottom-spin (or slice) on the ball. Top-spin will drive your hit down toward the table with speed. Bottom-spin will float your hit across the table slowly.

    • 2

Flick the Wiimote from right to left across your body (if you're right handed, vice versa if you're left handed) for a forehand swing. Flick the Wiimote from left to right across your body for a backhand. Your forehand or backhand choice is determined by the side of the table the ball hits. If it's on the left, use a backhand, and use a forehand if it's on the right. Top-spin and bottom-spin can be applied to both the forehand and the backhand.

    • 3

Hit the ball closer to the table to keep it low and fast (especially when using top-spin). Hit the ball sooner to get more angle on it which will force your opponent to run more. A good strategy is to hit the ball to one side of the table and then hit it to the opposite side of the table after your opponent returns the ball. If you can use enough of an angle (hitting it sooner) or enough speed (hitting it later) you will keep your opponent from returning the ball and be able to win the point.

    • 4

Move your player to the left or right by tilting the Wiimote to the left or right from a centered position when your opponent has the ball. Anticipate where he will send the ball and be in position for the return.
