How to Burn Games to a Wii Disc Without a Mod Chip

The Nintendo Wii gaming system uses a copy protection system to prevent unauthorized copies of games from playing. This is a piracy prevention scheme developed by Nintendo, but it also nullifies the ability to make authorized backup copies of the games you have purchased. For example, if your game disc gets scratched you could have a non-functioning game, even though you paid for it. Make a backup to prevent losing your valuable games. You should only back up games that you own; otherwise you are breaking the law.

Instructions

Purchase and download backup software. The options that work for Wii games are listed in the Resources section. This cost is from $30 to $60. Double-click on the downloaded file to start the software installer. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Insert your Wii game into the DVD-RW drive of your computer and select the option to designate the source for your game backup. Select the location of your computer's DVD-RW drive and confirm the selection. The software will make a copy of the Wii game to your hard drive. You will need at least five gigabytes of free space to perform this step. Note the name and location of the file generated (it will end with ISO or IMG).

When prompted by the software, insert a blank DVD-R into your DVD-RW drive. Remove the Wii game at the same time. Select the file you just created as the source and the DVD-RW drive as the destination. Click "Burn" to copy the files to the DVD-R in your drive.
