How to Use a GameCube Memory Card with the Wii

The Nintendo Wii was first released in 2006. It features wireless motion controls, interactive gaming and Virtual Console games. The system is also backwards compatible with the GameCube. You can use GameCube controllers, Wii Classic controllers and GameCube memory cards when playing GameCube games. There are many ways to access and use GameCube memory cards through the Wii.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the top flaps on the Nintendo Wii and look for the circular Nintendo GameCube controller ports. Above those ports are two slots for GameCube memory cards. Insert the GameCube memory card into port "A." Only use the "B" slot if you have two memory cards.

    • 2

Press the "Power" button on the Wii or the Wii remote.

    • 3

Select the "System Menu" option at the bottom of the screen. In the sub-menu, locate the "Memory Card" option and press "A."

    • 4

View the contents of the GameCube memory card that's installed. You should see the saved game files. If there are no files on the memory card, the screen will be blank.

    • 5

Select the saved game file you want to access and press "A." Select "Copy," "Cut" or "Delete," depending on what you want to do with the file. Press "B" to exit out of the menu.

    • 6

Insert a GameCube game disc and load it through the "Wii Disc Channel." The "Wii Disc Channel" is located in the top-left corner of the Wii menu.

    • 7

Select the "Load" option from the main menu of your game. The data on your memory card will automatically load.
