Wii Development Tools

The Wii is a gaming console manufactured by Nintendo, and it was originally released in 2006. This console features a wireless controller that follows the movements of the person using it, and the console can also connect to the Internet. Wii development tools allow you to debug Wii applications, and these tools also contain libraries of components to help developers design these applications. All of these tools are free, and you can download them from the Wii Brew website.
  1. Libmii

    • This is a library for homebrew applications, unauthorized apps for the Nintendo Wii that allow programmers to use the console for non-Wii games. This tool is for programmers looking to gain access to Mii data, types of file that are broken up into two blocks on the Wiimote, the game controller for Wii. Other features of this tool include the ability to pull up raw Mii data and translate that data into usable programming variables. This tool is for industry professionals.

    devkitPPC

    • The devkitPPC tool is a GNU operating system (OS) application. The GNU is a free, Unix-like OS, and this tool includes a compiler for C++ programs. A compiler is a program that converts source code written in one programming language into a different programming language. This tool also allows you to debug programs, which involves searching for errors within a software program so that you can fix them. Other features of this tool include a library for embedded systems, which are designed to do one or a few tasks. The devkitPPC is compatible with Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. When you download this toolkit, you can also download the libraries associated with the different tools within the kit.

    Libwiigui

    • This tool is offered under the GNU General Public License (GPL), which means that you can use and share this program without paying a licensing fee. The libwiigui helps you create graphical user interfaces (GUIs), allowing you to interact with your computer system using radio buttons, checkboxes and wizards as opposed to writing codes or programs. You can add images, text and drawings to your GUIs, and you can edit any of your GUIs based on your needs, including expanding them to suit your needs. Other features of this tool include that you can position objects any way that you need them to be. This tool is compatible with hot spots, or areas where you can get wireless Internet via a router.
