Wii Mario Kart Tips

Released in 2008, "Mario Kart Wii" was the first Wii console installment in the popular go-kart racing franchise. In "Mario Kart Wii," you can get behind the wheel using your personalized Mii character or one of a number of classic Nintendo personalities. The game lets you try various techniques to become a better racer in "Mario Kart Wii," and familiarizing yourself with them can mean the difference between victory and defeat.
  1. Drifting

    • Drifting will allow you to take a corner without losing any speed. "Mario Kart Wii" enables automatic and manual drifting modes. Manual drifting is more beneficial, as it provides better control. It will also enable you to perform a "drift boost," which is a burst of speed coming out of a turn. To drift, press the "B" button when driving around a corner. To boost your speed after you finish the turn, let go of the button when you see sparks coming from the kart.

    Rocket Starts

    • A rocket start will give you a speed boost at the start of a race and help you to build a quick lead on your competition. To perform a rocket start when beginning a race, press and hold the "A" button as the starting hand points to 11 o' clock on the second count. The timing on this technique takes practice, but it can become an invaluable tool when performed correctly.

    Tricks

    • You can perform tricks when jumping off ramps in "Mario Kart Wii." If you flick the Wii Remote just as your kart leaves the ramp, your character will do an aerial trick. You'll receive a speed burst when you land.

    Dragging Items

    • Dragging items behind your kart will defend against other players' attacks by blocking projectiles that come your way. Drag items by holding the "Z" button on your Wii Remote.

    Slipstreaming

    • Slipstreaming can increase your speed on straightaways. To perform this technique, closely follow a kart in front of you. When you see blue lines coming from your kart, your speed will increase. Holding the slipstream long enough will give you a speed burst that will allow you to pass.
