Tips on Beating Basketball Champs in Wii Sports Resort

"Wii Sports Resort" is a collection of sports-themed mini-games on the Nintendo Wii. The "Basketball" mini-game has two modes: "3-Point Contest" and "Pickup Game." Every time that you win a match against the computer opponent in the "Pickup" mini-game, the difficulty is ramped up, culminating in a showdown versus the champions after you gain 1,500 points. The basketball champs rarely make mistakes, but following a few tips will allow you to take them down.
  1. Shooting

    • Proper shooting form will ensure that you don't miss any shots. Hold the Wii remote at your side and press and hold the "B" button. Keep your arm as straight as possible, or you'll shank the shot. If your trajectory isn't straight, tilt the Wii remote left or right to nudge it toward the hoop. If your player attempts a shot while in the blue area of the court, he will dunk the ball, which gives you a much higher accuracy rate.

    Passing

    • Passing the ball at the proper moment can give you a wide open shot. If you see a teammate making a cut away from the opponent, press the D-pad in his direction and press the "A" button. If your on-screen player is standing still, moving the Wii remote will move the ball. Lift the Wii remote up and down without holding the "B" button to trick your opponent into thinking that you're taking a shot, then press "A" to pass the ball to an open teammate.

    Stealing

    • Mastering how to steal the ball on defense and take advantage of missed steals on offense is an important part of beating the champs. Attempt a steal on defense by quickly flicking the Wii remote toward the screen. Wait until the opponent is directly in front of you, or else you'll fall down and leave him a wide open shot. On offense, keep your finger on the "B" button and be ready to take a shot if the champions attempt a steal and end up flat on their face. The easiest way to ensure a sure score is to shake the Wii remote as soon as the opponent trips to run toward the basket, then press "B" in the blue area to dunk the ball.

    Blocking

    • Blocking is also a big part of putting together a winning strategy against the basketball champions. Flick the Wii remote upward to jump and attempt to block the ball. It's tempting to flick the Wii remote upward as soon as you see the champs start to jump, but it's unwise to do so, especially if they're attempting to fake you out. Instead, wait to flick the Wii remote until after the computer has started their jump shot. If you time your block so that you're jumping a split second after the opponent, you'll be at the apex of your jump just as the computer opponent is releasing the ball, resulting in a blocked shot.

On offense, make a motion as if you're really shooting a basketball, then release the "B" button as your on screen player reaches the top of his jump. This will catch the champions off guard and allow you to sink an easy jump shot.
