How to Determine the Wii Region

The Wii is a gaming console produced by Nintendo. The controllers feature built-in motion sensors that make it possible for the motion of the user to be detected by the game. These controllers make it possible to play such as games as tennis and golf using motion instead of button presses. Each Wii console is produced in a specific region. This means that only games from that region are compatible with the software used to run the game. The easiest way to find out what region a Wii is from is simply to check where it was purchased. However, there is another quick way to check the region of a Wii console.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the Wii console and the television it is connected to.

    • 2

Point the Wii Remote controller so that the onscreen hand-shaped cursor hovers over the "Wii" options button. The button is in the lower-right corner of the screen. Click the "A" button on the controller to select the options menu.

    • 3

Click the "Setup" button on the screen that appears. This button has a wrench on it.

    • 4

Look in the upper-right corner of the screen. The number indicates the firmware version installed on the console. After the number is a letter, either "U," "P" or "J." The letter represents the region code. "U" stands for United States NTSC; "P" stands for PAL (Asian region); and "J" stands for Japan NTSC.
