Wii Guitar Hero: Rock Band Compatibility

The popular "Rock Band" and "Guitar Hero" video game franchises on Nintendo Wii both follow very similar formulas: play along to your favorite songs using imitation guitar, microphone and drum controllers. But with so many controllers, it is sometimes difficult to keep track of which ones are cross-compatible.

Guitars
- Guitars which come with the "Guitar Hero" series are compatible with all "Guitar Hero" games. They will not work with the original "Rock Band," but will work with every other "Rock Band" brand game, such as "Rock Band 2" and "Rock Band: The Beatles."
  
  The guitars which come with the "Rock Band" series of games are compatible with all of the "Rock Band" series, but will not work with any of the "Guitar Hero" games.
Drums
- The "Guitar Hero" branded drums are compatible with all "Guitar Hero" games (except "Guitar Hero: Aerosmith" and "Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock," which do not have drumming tracks) and all games in the "Rock Band" series with the exception of the original "Rock Band."
  
  "Rock Band" series drums are compatible with all "Rock Band" games, but are incompatible with any "Guitar Hero" games.
Microphones
- Any microphone packaged with a "Guitar Hero" game will not only work with any "Guitar Hero" game (except "Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock" and "Guitar Hero: Aerosmith," because there are no singing tracks in the games), but will also work with any "Rock Band" game.
  
  Microphones bundled with the "Rock Band" games will work with any "Rock Band" or "Guitar Hero" game (except "Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock" and "Guitar Hero: Aerosmith").
