How to Play Madden on Wii

The Madden NFL video-game series has been a staple for fans of virtual football since the introduction of the franchise on the Apple II computer in 1989. Each successive iteration of the game has added new elements to the equation, increasing player immersion in the football experience. The Nintendo Wii offers a new level of player involvement due to the console's unique motion-based controls. Madden NFL 10 on the Wii features a very similar feature set when compared to the other console versions of the game, but due to the differences in control, requires a divergent approach to gameplay.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the game disc into the Wii console. Once the Madden NFL software has been loaded, you will be able to begin the game from the system's main menu.

    • 2

Choose the game mode you wish to play. Madden NFL 10 on the Wii features a number of different modes for gameplay.

"Play Now" will allow you to jump directly into a game. "Franchise" mode is very similar to what many games would call a "career mode," involving choosing your favorite team and progressing through a number of seasons. "NFL Superstar" allows you to create and play as a player in any position, following that single player through his entire career--both on and off the field. "Practice" allows you to set up a game and work to hone your skills. "Play Online" mode allows an Internet-connected Wii to join other players for online multiplayer games.

Beyond the specific game modes, Madden NFL 10 includes a number of other options. "Features" allows you to access your game creations, in addition to team rosters and historic teams present in the game. "My Madden" offers various game settings and strategies. "Skill Drills" is a mode that will teach you the fundamentals of the game and allow you to increase your skill through specially designed practice drills (making the mode valuable for new players). "EA Sports Extras" collects all of the extra content you unlock in order to allow you access.

Choose the style of control you wish to utilize. Madden NFL 10 features two types of control: "All-Play" and "Advanced." The styles are similar, but "Advanced" mode increases the level of control you have over your players--increasing the complexity.

Determine the side you are playing on. Defensive and offensive play in Madden NFL 10 feature different sets of controls. In all modes, the directional pad on the Wii remote and the analog stick on the Nunchuk both serve to move your player. For specific differences in controls, you can try out the "Skill Drills" option at the game's main menu.
