Things You'll Need
Instructions
Modify your Wii console. For the Wii to recognize and play game backups, its hardware needs to be modified to read burned discs. To date, there are two ways of achieving this. One such way is by hard-modifying it (informally known as modding). Users must open the console and place a chip inside it to recognize backups. The alternative is an easier soft-modding method, which requires no chipset or opening of the console. Please note it is perfectly legal to take such action as long as you use your console for homebrew testing or to play backups of video games you already own.
Insert your original game copy into your computer's DVD burner. To play backup games on Nintendo Wii, you need to own the original game you initially purchased. You may keep this backup copy for as long as you own the game or possess credible proof of purchase.
Launch your favorite media burning software to create a disc image. The aforementioned program's job is to rip the DVD content and create a new copy, ultimately serving as your new game backup. Close any active applications to ensure all DVD data is properly dumped as an image file to your computer.
Open your computer's DVD tray and replace the original game disc with a blank DVD. Upon disc image completion, you now need to copy that data onto a blank disc.
Burn the newly-created disc image to a blank DVD. From your media burning software, burning the original disc data to a blank DVD adds a required finishing touch to the process. Once finished, you will be able to play backup games on your Nintendo Wii. Insert and play the created disc into your Wii console the same way you would use your original game copy.
