How to Make Charizard Glide in Super Smash Brothers Brawl

The Smash Bros series has always pitted video game favorites against each other, and the creatures from the Pokemon universe have been part of the fray from the beginning. In the third game, "Super Smash Bros. Brawl," the Pokemon Trainer appears, using the three starter Pokemon from the original games: Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard. If you're knocked out of the arena during a bout, your character is out--so being able to fly, like Charizard can, is a huge advantage.

Instructions

    • 1

Power on the Wii and insert the Smash Bros game disc. When the Home menu loads, start the game.

    • 2

Select "Brawl" and begin a battle round, and select the Pokemon Trainer. Set up a game that will be fairly easy so that you can practice the technique. You can choose a second character, set them as a Computer player, and set their handicap low enough that they will simply walk around and let you practice.

    • 3

Start the round. Press "Down" and "Special Attack" until your Pokemon Trainer sends out Charizard. The Pokemon cycle in a set order: if Squirtle is first, Ivysaur will be second and Charizard third. The Pokemon you start with is selected at random.

    • 4

Press the "Jump" button to send Charizard up once. Press and hold a second time while he is still in midair. He will automatically begin to glide.

    • 5

Tilt the control stick or press the directional pad up and down to tilt Charizard's nose up or down. Angling his nose will change the way he's gliding: down increases speed, and up helps him fly longer. Practice tilting right, and you may be able to send him down briefly, then up again to send keep him afloat longer.

    • 6

Avoid falling off the edge of the stage. You can attack or nosedive to break out of the glide.

    • 7

Practice the previous steps in a simple practice battle for a few times until you feel you've mastered the art of gliding. When you feel comfortable with the glide move, take it into real battles.
