Animal Crossing: City Folk
"Animal Crossing: City Folk" is a leisurely game with a gentle, relaxing pace. Players live in a virtual village and tend to everyday tasks. Players can perform tasks, do nothing or look for hidden items to collect. By earning "Animal Crossing" currency, players can pay off mortgages for their homes, as well as buy furnishings and fun stuff. Not all items are available to buy each time players play the game, which means the game is a little different each outing. Parenting website recommends "Animal Crossing" for kids, as does Edutaining Kids.com.
Dance Dance Revolution Disney Grooves
In "Dance Dance Revolution: Disney Grooves," players step strategically on a special floor mat, in synchronization with commands on the screen. The goal is to keep the beat set by the game while keeping balanced on the mat. This version of "Dance Dance Revolution" features classic Disney tunes, including, "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious," "Makuna Matata" and the "Mickey Mouse Club March." Konami, maker of the "Dance Dance Revolution" series, has packaged this game with two dance mats. The Wii version incorporates optional hand movements with the dance steps through use of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers. "Dance Dance Revolution" keeps kids moving rather than sitting on the couch playing games. Parenting website recommends the "Disney Grooves" title for kids.
Mario Kart
"Mario Kart Wii" is a solid racing game that does not vary greatly from earlier entries in the "Mario Kart" series. The game comes with a steering wheel that acts as the controller, although players can choose to use the standard Wii Remote and Nunchuk. The wheel will make younger kids feel as if they are really driving, while older kids may be somewhat frustrated with the wheel's response time to their movements. The characters are kid friendly in that they are colorful and nonthreatening. Some of the characters are baby versions of the more popular characters, including a Baby Mario. Parenting, Best Toys Guide and Edutaining Kids.com all recommend "Mario Kart Wii."
Super Mario Galaxy
"Super Mario Galaxy" is a platform game in which players advance from level to level. Each level focuses on some aspect of skill or creativity. "XPlay" reviewers at G4 find the characters easier to control than in previous "Mario" games. A special feature of the Wii version of "Super Mario Galaxy" is that players can shake the hand controller to launch a spin attack, rather than having to tap controller buttons in a particular order. Kids should be able to start enjoying the game right away. Edutaining Kids.com recommends "Super Mario Galaxy."
