Golf Games for the Nintendo Wii

One of the highlights of the Wii console is its intuitive motion controls. Its games put players in situations where they will be sword fighting, doing tennis swings and driving using the same movements they would in reality. Golf is another of the motion-controlled activities that players will find themselves in. In addition to the golf game included in Wii Sports, there are a vast number of Golf-related games available on the Wii, although a handful are particularly noteworthy.
  1. Wii Sports or Wii Sports Resort

    • The game included with the console has its own golf game. Golf fans may find the game too simplified, almost dumbed down. The controls of the game are also a little iffy from time to time. When Nintendo released the sequel, "Wii Sports Resort," they also released a new version of the golf game in the original. Because it uses the MotionPlus attachment, the controls are a little smoother, but otherwise little has changed.

    Tiger Woods PGA Tour '10

    • "Tiger Woods PGA Tour '10" is the most recent of the golf games and is also the highest rated to date. Like "Wii Sports Resort," this franchise golf game uses the MotionPlus attachment, which allows the Wii to calculate the movements of the Wiimote with far greater precision and accuracy. Because it's also the latest iteration of an annual series, it has taken all of the improvements from its predecessors, including new courses and a party mode.

    We Love Golf!

    • Despite the similar-sounding name, "We Love Golf" is not actually made by Nintendo's Wii division. It's a fun golf title that, if anything, suffers from being too easy. This may be more of a game for kids than adults, but it does try to make golf a rewarding experience for people who don't even know how to hold a club. The game also draws you in by giving you a wealth of characters and features to unlock, including mini-games.

    Super Swing Golf

    • As far as golf-inspired controls go, "Super Swing Golf" is one of the more accurate titles. The system reads any twisting or movement in your wrists and translates that into corresponding movement on the follow-through, which can sometimes be frustrating. It combines this control scheme with a cutesy, kid-friendly set of characters inspired by Japanese anime.

    Carnival Games: Mini-Golf

    • The "Carnival Games" series is among the poorest rated for the Wii. This series is what some players call "shovelware," games made poorly and cheaply simply to cash in on an emerging software market. The Mini-Golf offering is no exception: poor controls, more mini-games than actual content and terrible level design. Some of the holes are extremely frustrating to play because they rely on shooting at impossible or weird angles. Golf fans would do well to avoid it.

    Fun! Fun! Minigolf

    • The WiiWare service gives a lot of games an edge: For less than the cost of a traditional retail game, you can download a game from your living room and be playing extremely quickly. Golf fans looking for a fun minigolf experience should check out the Wii Shop Channel's offering, which is a party-ready four-player game with great graphics and several difficulty settings.
