How to Not Slice in Wii Golf

Golf is among the six sports you can play on the Nintendo Wii pack-in title Wii Sports. As with many other Wii games, the golf activity uses motion controls to perform the on-screen action. Swing the Wii remote in your hand to swing the golf club on the screen. With some practice, you will avoid slicing the ball and will hit perfect shots with regularity.

Instructions

    • 1

Select your preferred hand after you pick your Mii. The game will calibrate your swing based on whether you are left-handed or right-handed, so pick the proper choice: "L" or "R" on this option screen.

    • 2

Choose your difficulty level. You can select from "Beginner," "Intermediate" or "Expert." If you have difficulty at the higher levels, try an easier level to help cure your slice. Easier difficulty levels also have easier holes to play.

    • 3

Point the Wii remote toward the floor and hold "A" to address the ball when you are on the course.

    • 4

Take an easy swing backwards and then forwards to hit the ball. If you swing too hard, the power meter on the left-hand side of the screen will turn red and the ball will hook or slice. With practice, you will be able to perfect your swing to fill the meter, but not go beyond it to avoid these crooked shots.

    • 5

Remember that you don't always have to hit a powerful shot to score well on a hole. A par 5 is designed to be reached in three strokes, so you do not have to get to the green in two. It is possible to swing softer and lay up on the second shot (eliminating the slice from an overswing) and still get the ball close enough to the hole on the third shot to make a birdie.

    • 6

Push up or down on the Wii remote's control pad to change clubs. You can choose from a driver, iron, wedge or putter. If you need to hit a long shot, try switching from the iron to the driver instead of hitting a power iron shot that could slice.
