Collecting and Using Items
Turn on the console and start Tetris Party. Choose a multiplayer game mode, and switch "Items" to "On."
Play until an item block appears, and clear the row containing that block. You clear rows in Tetris by placing tetrominoes (pieces) so that the entire line is full of blocks.
Press the "B" button on the remote, or the "X" or "Y" button on the classic controller, to use an item.
Item Types
Collect a "Smoke" item. Point or select the opponent's screen and press "B" to cover their matrix in smoke. She will have to shake the remote rapidly to clear the smoke.
Find a "Speed Up" item. This causes the opponent's tetrominoes to fall faster than usual for a short time.
Gather a "Block Shot" item, and then point and shoot at the opponent's screen with "B" to fill the area with blocks. The more rapidly you press "B," the more blocks you send at him.
Kick a line with the "Line Kick" item. Point at the line you want to clear and press "B."
Use the "Cascade" item and pieces you drop will come apart when they land, falling into gaps. This is useful if you drop a piece into a hole that is too deep for it, as the blocks will drop into the hole.
Lock your opponent's pieces with the "Lock" item, which prevents her from rotating for a short period of time.
Collect a "Field Climber" item so you can place a field climber onto your opponent's screen. If he crushes the little man, some blocks will appear from the bottom of the screen as a penalty.
Make your life easier with the "Shift" item, which will move all of the blocks toward wherever you point and launch it. Point at a side of your screen and press "B." All of the pieces will align on that side of the screen.
Hold back progress by using the "Time Stop" item on your opponents. For a short time, her screen will stop altogether.
Regain the element of surprise and hide your opponent's next piece with the "Hide" item. Select an opponent and use the item, and he won't be able to see the next piece for a little while.
