Wii Balance Board FAQ

The Wii Balance Board is an extension of the Nintendo Wii console and is basically a controller for the feet. Players stand, step and balance on the board to exercise and play games on the Nintendo Wii. Like the Wii remote, the Balance Board is wireless and sends transmissions to the Wii's sensor bar that is attached to the console.
  1. What Game Comes with the Balance Board?

    • Originally the Balance Board was packaged with "Wii Fit," but in 2009, the game was replaced with "Wii Fit Plus." "Wii Fit Plus" features weight tracking, exercise activities and minigames like Hula-Hoop, soccer and more. The game is also sold separately for owners of the Balance Board.

How Does the Balance Board Work?

    • The Balance Board uses four spring-loaded sensors to track movements and weights from the players. The board is shaped like a scale and players stand on it to play certain games. A sensor in the front of the board sends information to the Wii.

Can I Use Multiple Balance Boards?

    • The Wii is not compatible with multiple boards because it technically reads the board as two controllers. With the Wii remote also needed, that takes up three of the four controller ports, thus preventing extra Wii Balance Boards from being attached.

What Games Are Compatible with the Balance Board?

    • More than a dozen games have balance board compatibility. These include "Winter Sports 2," "EA Sports Active," "Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games," "We Ski and Snowboard" and "Don King Boxing".

Does the Balance Board Take Batteries?

    • Yes, the Balance Board is powered with four AA batteries, but power packs are also sold to power the board through an outlet.

Is There a Weight Limit on the Balance Board?

    • The board supports up to 330 pounds. Multiple people should not stand at the board at the same time because damage could occur to the board's casing or sensors within the balance board.

What Activities Can I Do with the Balance Board?

    • Games enable players to do almost anything with the board. Winter sports games allow players to ski, snowboard and ice skate. Players can also recreate horse racing, soccer, yoga, Hula-Hoops and basic running.
